Vessel Water Leak Detection Dog

    My story about vessel

Vessel the Nation's First Water Leak Detection Dog Trained by Tracy Owen

Vessel was a rescue dog, an unwanted stray, originally saved by Tia Torres of Pit Bulls and Parolees fame. She

entered her into the Arkansas Paws in Prison program. After just 2 weeks in training, I knew she had tremendous potential.

I had several clients needing service dogs, so I instructed the PIP trainers to sharpen her service dog skills. Vessel

responded beautifully to training. While in training, the trainers also encouraged her ball drive. Working for the ball

became all she thought about, making it difficult for her to work for a disabled person. I knew this talented dog

needed a job I just didn't know what it would be. Then I received a phone call from Central Arkansas Water Company asking

if I could train a dog to detect water leaks. I said yes, and I have just the dog for you!

Vessel became the first water leak detection dog in the nation.

On the Nose trainer Tracy Owen  has trained the first water leak detection dog in North America. Vessel, a beautiful black lab was the first dog trained in this valuable skill. She is owned and utilized by Central Arkansas Water, an award winning metropolitan water system that serves a population of approximately 450,000. Vessel has an impressive track record detecting deep underground leaks that were unable to be detected with advanced technology. Because Vessel and dogs trained like her, are able to assist in pinpointing leaks within water distribution lines, these highly skilled dogs are sought after by both large and small water supply companies as well as private companies who specialize in water conservation and leak detection.
